ANNE HERLIHY

LA BELLA LUNA

A quilted and colorful tent provided space for one karaoke performer to sing a selectiion from a large playlist dedicated to songs with lyrics about the moon.  A live feed capture of the singer’s face was projected onto a fifteen foot high balloon floating above the tent bringing the private performance into the public realm much to the delight of the large and enthusiastic audience.

Anne Herlihy explores portraiture and its various interpretations, focusing on the manner in which individuals portray themselves and how they are in turn portrayed by artists and the media. Her work is concerned with the ways in which controlling this narrative can alter our perceptions. Her project for Glow, Bella Luna, extended the idea of portraiture into an interactive realm, where visitors became portraits via projection, as they sang songs celebrating the moon and individual expression. Portraiture becomes performance, with the Glow audience providing both the subject and the spectator. Herlihy lives in Santa Monica and New York. http://www.facebook.com/pages/GLOW-Bella-Luna/136650336371111
