GIL KUNO

HAZE

Fog machines coupled with chiller devices were used to create a fog bank that hugged the surface of the stadium seating facing the volleyball courts just south of the pier.  Abstract and changing patterns reminiscent of Rorschach tests, were projected onto the fog. As the night advanced, changes in temperature and humidity impacted the quality of the fog thus impacting the nature of the imagery.  The occasional addition of a soundtrack added an aural dimension creating an audio-visual synergy.  The ambiguous and abstract nature of both the sound and the imagery provided an open space for interpretation, hence the perfect reference to the “Rorschach test”.

Gil Kuno takes a whimsical approach to the subversion of the common perception of reality; exaggerated perception and derailed reality are the central themes of his work. He has received recognition from Ars Electronica, JapanMedia Arts Festival, Canon Digital Creators Contest, International Film Rotterdam, Freewaves, and the World Wide Video Festival, among others.
