Ferris Wheel Orchestra
Mandala Fanfare
Mandala Fanfare composed and conducted by Daniel Corral was performed by a large ensemble of musicians riding the Pacific Wheel. A percussionist kept a constant rhythmic pulse while the other musicians traveled through a series of repeated musical cells. Each individual instrument faded in and out as the ferris wheel turned and the player’s proximity to the audience changed. The pitch material came from two harmonic movements in opposite directions around that bastion of western musical geometry, the circle of fifths. The resulting symmetrical arch-form harmony is a reminder both of what awaits those who travel in circles, and of the changes that are occurring on our journey back to where we started.
